A Newfield man was arrested late last week driving a stolen car in Vermont.
Damian Emerson, 26, has been charged with criminal driving with a suspended license, aggravated operating without owner’s consent and eluding an officer, according to the Vermont State Police.
Emerson was driving a blue 2021 Nissan Altima about 9:54 p.m. Friday when he allegedly blew through a stop sign at the intersection of routes 242 and 101 in Troy.
When a trooper pulled him over, Emerson stopped but then allegedly fled.
Police later found the Nissan parked on East Main Street, and Emerson’s female passenger told police his name and that he ran away, according to the state police. Officers soon learned that the vehicle was reported stolen in Maine days earlier.
A sheriff’s deputy found Emerson walking near East Main Street’s intersection with Pine Street.
Emerson was taken to Northern State Correctional Facility, where he was being held on $5,000 bail ahead of a Monday court appearance.
