Update: Lil Wayne has been rebooked to perform in Bangor on July 28.
Rapper Lil Wayne was a no-show at his own concert at the Bangor waterfront Tuesday night.
The New Orleans-born musician was supposed to take the stage after opening act 2 Chainz. His set was scheduled to begin at 10:45 p.m., but by 11 p.m., the crowd was told the show was over and Lil Wayne would not be taking the stage.
No official explanation has yet been offered.
His fans, however, were not exactly surprised. “Water is wet,” said one user on Reddit, who could not be described as nonplussed over the no show. Others, meanwhile, called him out for unprofessionalism and showing disrespect toward his fans.
It’s far from the first time that the rapper has skipped out on his own show. Last year, Lil Wayne canceled a Toronto performance — after fans had already packed the venue. He was a no-show at a California music festival in 2024, and the year before, he walked out during a Los Angeles performance because the crowd was apparently not lively enough.
Before that he canceled a show in South Carolina in 2017 when he refused to go through security. In 2019, Lil Wayne wouldn’t perform in Miami when he refused, again, to go through security. He also missed three performances in Minneapolis in 2015 and 2017.
Rumors abounded that Lil Wayne would cancel his 2019 performance at the Bangor waterfront. Those rumors were spurred after he canceled a performance in Virginia days earlier.
It wasn’t all bad Tuesday night. Concertgoers enjoyed 2 Chainz’ performance.
“It was a great show and 2 Chainz was awesome. The DJ was good too. But really sucks that Wayne no showed,” one Reddit user wrote.
