I believe the trash plant in Orrington is a blight on our community and many other nearby communities as well. Living only a half mile from the facility, over the years we have been subjected to consistent light and air pollution with little benefit to the community to offset these concerning issues.
The fire in 2024 caused so many of us in the area to suffer from respiratory problems including my young daughter whose asthma was greatly affected by the 10 days of smoke and dangerous particles in the air that surrounded us and other nearby communities. This recent fire didn’t last nearly as long, but yet again we were greatly affected by the onslaught of dangerous smoke that was released during the blaze.
Something needs to be done to guarantee our health and safety and that of our neighbors. I know that my family and many others want nothing more than to see this hazard be completely shut down. Only then can we all enjoy the beautiful Penobscot River, the crisp fresh air and the peace of mind that we so desperately need.
