Sen. Susan Collins sent me a flyer warning me to watch out for radical DC progressives. With midterms coming as a referendum on two years of absolute Republican control, I took a moment to sit with that concern.

Republicans have used their trifecta power to achieve real change. A brand new endless war. A modern corruption empire built on insider trading, pay-for-pardons, crypto scams, and no-bid contracts for vanity projects. An end to food safety, and the revival of eradicated childhood diseases. A comprehensive federal support policy for child predators, including Epstein collaborators and the Tate brothers. At this very moment, we are witnessing a historic transfer of wealth from working Americans to the billionaires, many of whom are asset-strippers parasitizing our entire economy.

But sure, warn me about the scary radical progressives. Because they want rich people to pay taxes. And taxpayer dollars to fund education and healthcare instead of wars and golden bunkers. Because they keep pursuing accountability for the Epstein class. And because they want to grow real jobs for real workers instead of rationing our drinking water to subsidize AI data centers to replace us.

I’m sure that does all sound scary to Collins, entrenched as I think she is with the rich donor class. In fact, things are so publicly, obviously bad right now under Republican rule that the entire party’s current campaign strategy is apparently a desperate grasp back to the panic-propaganda of the good old red-scare days. But all I keep thinking is, stop threatening me with a good time.
