What is one new policy that the state should embrace to make housing easier to build and afford?
Review and revise the regulatory process. Eliminate outdated and other unnecessary related regulations. Support lower interest rates. Very important, reduce the time it takes to obtain permits.
Transmission lines, solar incentives and offshore wind development have been controversial over the past several years. What steps should Maine take to meet growing demand for electricity?
Solar, wind and offshore wind all require subsidies to build and operate, paid for by the public, eliminate these subsidies. We should pursue clean hydropower, Maine has the resources with our rivers. We should explore returning to nuclear energy. I think we have the ability to create clean power sources that can support themselves.
In my opinion the solar panel fields and windmills take away from our states beautiful land scape.
Should the state make changes to its tax laws? If so, outline your priorities.
Yes, we need make responsible changes in our tax laws. We are all being burdened with high tax increases at a time people can least afford it. I’m hearing this from most of the people I’ve been talking to while campaigning.
I talked to a disabled veteran that is about to lose his house due to tax increases. There shouldn’t be any elderly person, or veteran on a fixed income worrying about losing their homes.
We are closing in on the one-year anniversary of the Lewiston mass shooting. Are further legislative responses required around guns, mental health, supporting victims and families or other policy areas?
My heart goes out to all victims and families of victims of violent crimes. The shooting in Lewiston was extremely violent and massive, commitmented by, obviously a mentally distrurbed man. There were many factors that lead up to this horrible shooting and I’m not going to second guess the investigators.
In full disclosure, I’m a strong supporter of our second amendment.
The gun as with a knife or even a baseball bat for example, is, or can be the instrument of a violent crime, and crimes are committed by people.
We need to prosecute criminals to the full extent of the law and keep weapons away from the mentally ill.
Describe a unique attribute or area of focus that you will bring to the Legislature.
I believe my lifelong experiences, my work experience in law enforcement and executive leadership along with interaction with the Legislature will allow me to represent the concerns of all the people in house district #52 Richmond, Bowdoinham, Bowdoin and Perkins Island Township
