GARDINER, Maine (AP)&nbsp- A fundraiser for the Pittston family that was victimized by a machete-wielding intruder was held in Gardiner last night and raised thousands of dollars for their medical bills.

Comedian Bob Marley entertained supporters who filled the Gardiner Area High School gymnasium in the fund-raiser for the Guerrette family.

William Guerrette says he was nearly moved to tears by the outpouring of support. He and his daughter suffered deep cuts during the break-in in their home in May. A suspect is in custody but has pleaded not guilty.

Guerrette’ s son told the crowd that “laughter is the best medicine” for his family. Tickets sold before the show raised more than $5,000, and at the door the benefit pulled in more than $16,000.
