PITTSFIELD – Betty L. Shorey, 76, died peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. She was born May 17, 1932, in Winn, the daughter of Charles and Viora (Grass) Wyman. She graduated from Mattanawcook Academy, Lincoln, Class of 1950. Betty was employed for 32 years as the bookkeeper for SAD 53. She was a lifetime member of the Arts Club. She was co-founder of the Pittsfield Egg Festival and belonged to the hospital auxiliary. She enjoyed camping, sewing, reading, making crafts and listening to country music. She was an avid fan of NASCAR with Dale Earnhardt Sr., No. 3, being her favorite. She is survived by her son, John Shorey and his special friend, Beverly Buker, of St. Albans; her daughter, Penny Basford and her husband, Jim, of Plymouth; four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Shorey, in September 1985. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Village Cemetery, Peltoma Avenue, Pittsfield, with the Rev. Glenn Nichols officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sebasticook Valley Hospital Developmental Office, 447 North Main St., Pittsfield, ME 04967.
