BANGOR – Carl Armington Smith passed away Aug. 18, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 27, 1940, in Machias, to Harold and Myra (Strout) Smith. Carl spent his early years in Cherryfield and Framingham, Mass. He graduated from Framingham High School in 1958. During his working years, Carl was employed by Framingham Country Club and Wonderbread, before a long career in insurance with AON Corp., retiring in 2003. Papa will be remembered for his love of his family, golfing, hockey, hunting and fishing. He had a hearty laugh and love of a good joke. He was never happier than at the helm of his boat, seeking the next big catch, hunting annually with his friends and family or playing a round of cribbage at a kitchen table. Carl was predeceased by his granddaughter, Samantha in 2004. Carl is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Bartley of Austin, Texas; son, Daniel and wife, Kim, of Auburn, N.H., and their son, Blake; son, Carl and wife, Michelle, of Framingham, Mass., and their children, Cullen, Nolan and Kailey. Dad especially wanted to thank the staff at Dana Farber and Clinical Research Center for their kindness and quality care throughout the years of his treatments. A wake will be held 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at McHugh Funeral Home, 483 Beech St., corner of Hanover Street, Man-chester, N.H. A funeral liturgy will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter’s Church, 575 Manchester St., Auburn, N.H., with burial afterwards at Village Cemetery, Auburn, N.H.
