BANGOR – Gladys Mary Bean, 77, died peacefully Aug. 20, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Nov. 8, 1930, in Topsfield, daughter of Justin and Cora (Hamilton) Kneeland. Gladys enjoyed needlepoint, gardening, and going on cruises with friends and family. She worked as a practical nurse for several years at Lincoln Memorial Hospital and Eastern Maine Medical Center, and retired after 30 years of employment at a Bangor retirement facility. Most recently, she enjoyed working at Hollywood Slots, where she had many friends. More than anything her family was her life and there are many treasured memories, especially with Gladys spending time with her great-grandson, Evan. She is survived by her children, Bobby Bean and wife, Holly, of Lincoln, Debbie Fraser and husband, Lou, of Brewer, and Darlene Bean of Bangor; grandchildren, Justin Bean and wife, Nicole, Kristen Bean and fiance, Jamie Switzer, Cody Bean, Heather Knowles and husband, Adam, and Ian Fraser; great grandson, Evan Marshall Knowles; nieces and nephews, Keith Kneeland and family, Dixie Curtis, Cathy Brown, and numerous others. Gladys was predeceased by her husband, Leon Bean. Friends are invited to call 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a service of remembrance will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25.
