HAMLIN – Raymond E. Davis, 78, Chief Petty Officer, SS, U.S. Navy, retired, husband of Mona J. (Roy) Davis, passed away Aug. 19, 2008, at a local health care facility, after a period of failing health. Ray, one of seven children, was born Oct. 28, 1929, to Roy and Helen (Taubler) Davis in Toronto, Ohio. He was an electrician by trade, a submarine sailor for 20 years, worked for Monsanto for 18 years, the U.S. Immigration Service for eight years and was a member of American Legion Post No. 49. He spent many a day with family and friends fishing for striped bass and blue fish in Long Island Sound. He loved to tell “sea stories” and how could we ever forget what an avid hockey fan he was. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Mona of Hamlin, are his son, Raymond A. Davis and wife, Lee, of Old Lyme, Conn.; his daughter, Patricia Schaefer and husband, John, of Plainfield, Ill., several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two sisters and three brothers and their families. He was predeceased by his daughter, Donna; and one of his brothers. There will be a graveside service with military honors 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at St. Bruno Cemetery, Van Buren.
