PITTSFIELD – Helen F. Millette, 81, died peacefully Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, at Sebasticook Valley Hospital, Pittsfield. She was born April 3, 1927, in Washburn, the daughter of F. Milo and Della (Bubar) Wiers. Helen enjoyed knitting, crocheting and reading. She spent much of her life farming. She was content to sit outside on the deck or by the pool she took great pride in her birdfeeders and enjoyed watching the birds and wildlife. After the death of her husband, she moved next door to her son and her family, where she was very much loved and taken care of for many years. In the past she was involved with the town of Palmyra election polls. She had close friends from the alumni of Newport High School, where she had graduated from 1945 and loved hosting their class reunions in her home. She attended High Street Congregational Church for many years and was, at the time of her death, attending Calvary Baptist Church, Pittsfield. She was the Bubar reunion secretary for 13 years. She is survived by her three children, Joy Hughes of St. Albans, Willis Millett and his wife, Martha, of Pittsfield and Nancy Valencourt and her husband, Wayne, of Lyman; seven grandchildren, Andrea, Jon, Greg, Wesley and his fiancee, Jill Arno, Tyler and his wife, Julie, Luke and Neil; a very special great-granddaughter, Alexis; her sister, Mary-Lou Fraser of Bangor; a brother, Irving Wiers and his wife, Phyllis, of Enfield, Conn.; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Millett; a son, Wayne; a daughter, Barbara; her sister, Louise Barris; and a brother, Frederick Wiers. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Palmyra Village Cemetery, Warren Hill Road, Palmyra with the Rev. Scott Millett officiating.
