JULIETTE TALBOT MATHIEU WATERVILLE – Juliette Talbot Mathieu, 90, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Aug. 26, 2008, surrounded by her devoted family. Juliette was born May 5, 1918, in Waterville, to Charles Talbot and Appoline Lapierre Talbot. Juliette attended St. Francis de Sales School and later in life earned her GED from Waterville High School. She married Leonel Mathieu in 1937. They resided in Waterville their entire life and raised their family at 35 Pleasantdale Ave. The family home remained “The Gathering Place” through the years for family, friends and neighbors. Juliette had a strong work ethic and went to work at the plastic mill in Waterville when Leonel was called to serve his country on a Navy cruiser in the South Pacific during World War II. When Leonel returned from the war she returned to being a full-time mom. In subsequent years, she had several jobs to include selling Avon, retail clerk at Lincoln’s Department Store, personal care attendant and as a dental assistant to Roger Bourassa, D.D.S., for many years. Juliette loved to travel and for many years she traveled the world through her books. She was a prolific reader and was nourished and nurtured as she learned the ways of the world as she turned the pages of many books. As the years passed, she actually did get to visit many of the places she journeyed to through her books. Her final journey is the greatest of all and as we, her family, say goodbye we count the many ways we have been blessed by all that she has given us. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Leonel Sanford Mathieu; her granddaughter, Rhonda Bousselot Peter; and her siblings, Cyril “Pete” Talbot, Ovide Talbot, Joseph Talbot, Thomas Talbot – Brother Laurentin, Alice Talbot and Rose Talbot Doyon. She is survived by her children, Douglas and wife, Aurelie, of Carrabassett Valley, Sylvia Mathieu Bousselot of New Brunswick, N.J., Brenda Mathieu Champagne and husband, Frank, of Manchester, N.H., John Mathieu and wife, Sonia, of Sidney, and James Mathieu and wife, Andrea, of Fairfield Center; her grandchildren, Brenda Bousselot Cioce and husband, Anthony, Brian Bousselot and wife, Darla, Frank Champagne and wife, Sharron, Greg Champagne, Karen Mathieu Martin and husband, Joseph, Kimberly Mathieu Bomfim and husband, Antulio, Stephen Mathieu and wife, Michelle, Bethany Mathieu, Christopher Mathieu, Hannah Mathieu, Anthony Jacobs, Brianna DeLong Killip and husband, Adam, Erin DeLong Falk and husband, Christopher, and Ashley DeLong; and her great-grandchildren, Gregory and Ryan Peter, Sarah, Emma and Eric Bomfim, Nicholas and Jack Mathieu, Mathieu Champagne, Gabrielle Champagne, Bronx Bousselot and Connor Killip. A heartfelt thank you to Juliette’s doctors, the staffs at Sunset Home, Lakewood Manor, Inland Hospital and Hospice Volunteers of Greater Waterville for the kind and thoughtful care you provided. Family and friends are invited to visit 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at Sacred Heart Church, 70 Pleasant St., Waterville. Interment will be at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Waterville.
