BANGOR – C. Peter Marini, 91, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at a Bangor health care facility. He was born May 13, 1917, in Marlboro, Mass., the son of Frank C. and Idalina (Custodio) Marini. Peter enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1940, where he proudly served during World War II assigned to an anti-submarine patrol unit, searching for enemy submarines. He flew O47’s and L5’s. Of the several experiences with submarines, he was awarded a Battle Star for his American Defense Medal, also the Air Medal while serving in the Canal Zone. He left the service with an honorable discharge June 12, 1945. After his service to his country, Peter enjoyed a career as a communications specialist and later became a telecommunications manager for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NOAA. He was an ardent boatman. He was on the Coast Guard Auxiliary for 31 years, serving on the National Board and on the National Safe Boating Council. Upon his retirement from NOAA, he became a private investigator for the state of Maine. His first love was always flying. He started flying in his early 20s and continued well into his 80s. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and enjoyed discus-sing every game. He was affiliated with Anah Shrine Temple, Bangor and Island Falls Maine Mason Lodge No. 206. He was a member of the Bangor American Legion, VFW and Elks. He was predeceased by his wife, Edith (Clifford) Marini of Island Falls; his sisters, Doris Grondin of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Viola Dipersio of Hudson, Mass. He is survived by his wife, Erma (Snow) Marini; his brother, Frank Marini and his wife, Rosemary, of Berlin, Mass., his stepdaughters, Betty Ivey of Connecticut, Carol Schiller of Bangor; his very dear friend, Armand Paquin of Bangor; many nieces and nephews. There was a memorial service 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, at Sunbury Village, the retirement community where he resided.
