BANGOR and BRADFORD – Catherine Ann (Batchelor) Forbes, 68, of Bradford, fought her final battle and passed peacefully Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, while surrounded by her family, at a Bangor hospital. Cathy was a very courageous woman who fought many battles in her lifetime. A Girl Scout from her youth, and later a counselor, Cathy was prepared for any situation, having just what was needed when the occasion arose. An avid sportsman, Cathy and her husband, along with their family, spent the summers camping and fishing while hunting season found them at their camp in Bradford. In 1990, Cathy bagged a trophy buck of over 250 lbs. and with the rack scoring 162 by the Skull and Trophy Club, earning her third place for that year. Known by many as “Aunt Cathy,” she helped to support her family throughout her life by decorating cakes and being a childcare provider. For her enjoyment, she enjoyed doing ceramics, sewing, knitting sweaters for the family additions, playing cards, camping, dancing with her husband, baking goodies and apple cakes, taking rides and going to Wendy’s for chicken nuggets. Cathy had a shining personality and, along with her husband, made friends wherever she went. Her fight with numerous illnesses made her an inspiration to others. She will be remembered as an individual who always had a smile on her face despite her own problems. Cathy leaves behind her husband of 48 years, Freeman; daughters, Julie-Ann Walker and her husband, Christopher, of New Gloucester, and Patricia Valeriani and her husband, Anthony, of Yarmouth; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; her mother, Margaret C. Batchelor of Yarmouth; sisters, Sandra Hudon and her husband, Armand, of Connecticut, and Geri and her husband, Dale, of Rockland; brothers, Bucky Batchelor of Florida, and Frank Batchelor and his wife, Betsy, of Freeport; mother-in-law, June Forbes of Greenville; sister-in-law, Junie Cobb and her husband, Bob, of Portland; six nephews, five nieces and three godchildren.
