BUCKSPORT – Cherri L. Conroy, 59, passed from this Earth Sept. 6, 2008, at her home, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Jan. 17, 1949, in Utica, N.Y., the daughter of Douglas G. and Elva Donna (Hanning) Smith. Cherri was married to Michael Conroy, Sept. 11, 1982, in Bucksport. She was a graduate of Bucksport High School. During the years she was able to work, she was employed at the Maine Maritime Academy bookstore, Castine; Salem Lumber Co; and Twilight Motel, Ellsworth. When physical limitations stopped her from working, she continued to maintain her home and support her husband in his career. She enjoyed crocheting and going to NASCAR races, she even made it on the track at Martinsville in her wheel chair with Timmy. More than anything, Cherri was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her husband, Michael C. Conroy of Bucksport; daughter, Angela Jones of Bangor; special daughter, Sophie; siblings, Debbie Gray of Bucksport, Sandy Hill and her husband, Kenny, of Tarpon Springs, Fla., Mysie “Kitten” Camper and her husband, Timmy, of Blue Ridge, Va., Arthur James “AJ” Smith and his girlfriend, Kristy Short, of Vinton, Va., and Clayton Smith and his fianc?e, Michelle Lemieux, of Ocala, Fla.; niece and nephew, Kylie Gray of Bangor and Tammy Cashat of Dunedin, Fla.; several great-nieces and great-nephews, T.J. Keith, Danci, Jeremy, Summer and Montana; two special aunts, Del Brooks of Bath and Pauline Conroy of Bucksport; several cousins, including Dwayne York of Bath and host of friends. Cherri was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Douggy Smith and Chuck Smith; and special friend, Nancy Ann Taylor. Memorial services will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating.
