ORONO and MILFORD Mae E. Clement, 89, died Sept. 9, 2008, at a local nursing facility. She was born Sept. 5, 1919, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Ray and Amanda (Wark) Hockenhull. Mae was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School. Mae married Thomas J. Clement, June 22, 1946, in Orono. She was employed by the University of Maine, Orono, for 32 years, retiring in 1982. Mae loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a great impact on her grandchildren by babysitting and taking trips. She is survived by her two daughters, Loretta Wasson and husband, Bruce, of Milford and Martha Powers and husband, Gary, of Old Town. She was a second mother to Paula Spellman and husband, David, of Old Orchard Beach. She is also survived by grandchildren, Chris Wasson and Heidi McLaughlin of Milford, Jeff Wasson and fiancee, Rebecca Williams, of Punta Gorda, Fla., John and Cindy Powers of Mechanic Falls, Casey Powers of Milford and Frankie and Tasha Spellman of Old Orchard Beach; great-grandchildren, Dustin, Ashley, Abigail Wasson and Eli Powers; by her brother, Robert Hockenhull and wife, Natalie, of Hampton, N.H.; one sister, Joan Douglass of Bangor; a brother-in-law, Fred Lucci of Portland; a sister-in-law, Rose and Del Gillis of Spring Hill, Fla; several nieces and nephews. Mae was predeceased by her husband, Thomas, in 1978; brother, James Hockenhull; her sister, Erma Lucci; and brother-in-law, Charles Douglass. The family thanks the staff at Brewer Rehab for all their care and compassion. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, with the Rev. Joan Desanctis officiating. Burial will be afterward at Riverside Cemetery, Orono, next to her husband.
