BEATRICE O. LOWDEN – CORINTH – Beatrice O. Lowden, 79, the wife of the late Clifton G. Lowden, died Sept. 20, 2008, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home after a short illness. She was born Nov. 16, 1928, in Brewer, the daughter of Henry and Olive (Keliher) Barstow. Bea and her family moved from the mid-coast area to Corinth in 1971, to Dexter in 1995 and returned to Corinth in 2006. She was a member of Corinth United Methodist Church, where she served as hostess for the yearly Strawberry Festival Supper for many years. She had been a member of Bangor Garden Club, Corinth Old Home Day Committee, served as chair of the Corinth Planning Board and had served as Corinth Health Officer for many years. Bea was well known for her interest in antiques and her home, which was featured in Down East Magazine, was open to tours by school groups and other interested parties. She was also a florist and herbalist and lectured on these subjects in the greater Corinth area. Surviving are her children, William and Mary of Nobleboro, Bruce and Jolayne of Corinth, Elizabeth LaForge of Corinth and Robin and Dennis Corey of Charleston; a sister, Edna Verney of Sheepscott; and a brother, Henry Barstow and wife, Alice, of Bristol; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins, and many good friends. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Corinth United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Cynthia Nickerson officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to join them at the church fellowship hall after the service for a time of fellowship and refreshment.
