SHIRLEY MCALOON – MATTAWAMKEAG and WESTBROOK – Shirley “Grammy Shirley” McAloon passed away Sept. 12, 2008. She was born Shirley Mae Rideout, July 19, 1930, in Mattawamkeag, daughter of John Rideout and Geneva (Williams) Rideout. A lifelong resident of Maine, she was married Feb. 3, 1951, to Frederick Clarence McAloon of Kingman, and they lived together in the Portland area until his passing March 21, 1999. Grammy Shirley will be remembered as a loving and loyal mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her family and friends will most miss her sense of humor, her sharp wit and her “tell it like it is” spirit. She loved spending time with family, working on her crafts and making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Jack and Charlie Rideout of Mattawamkeag; and her beloved daughter, Gail Ann in 1980. She is survived by her son, Dan McAloon of Hiram; and her three granddaughters and their families, Julie Hackett and her husband, Frank, and their children, Kelsey, Cameron and Parker of Pembroke, Mass., and Jessica of Hampden; Danielle Adair and her daughters, Gabrielle and Emma of Grayson, Ga.; and Tori Crocker and her husband, Josh, and their children, Mason, Kayla, McKenna and Kensley of Old Town. She also leaves behind special friends at Larrabee Village, Westbrook, including her dear friend, Brenda, to whom she was eternally grateful for all her help and support. The dynamic duo shared many good times and wonderful adventures right up until her passing. At her request, no funeral services will be held. The family asks that those who choose to honor her spend time doing the simple things that she most loved, cooking a wonderful meal to share with others, picnicking in the park, feeding the ducks, admiring the flowers, trees and natural beauty all around us, and spending time with the ones you love.
