MARY CARLISLE HILTON – PORTLAND – Mary Carlisle Hilton, 87, died Sept. 21, 2008, at The Cedars, Portland. She was born in Bangor, the daughter of George T. and Maude Carlisle. Mary was married for 57 years to William Rogers Hilton, who predeceased her in 2000. She was a graduate of Stoneleigh Junior College and a member of the Class of 1942 of the University of Maine. Residents of Newark, Del., for more than 30 years, in retirement Mary and Bill lived in Fort Myers, Fla., and Dedham before moving to Portland. She is survived by her children, Mary Jane and Peter Hess of Canton, Conn., Susan and Richard Gays of Newark, Del., Margaret and James Cloutier of Portland, and William and Colleen Hilton of Westbrook; and her nine grandchildren, Peter and William Hess, Christopher and Robert Gays, Mary and Susan Cloutier, William, Emily and John Hilton. She is also survived by her siblings and in-laws, Margaret Speirs, George Carlisle, Charles Carlisle, Pauline Carlisle, Thomas Hilton, Robert Klausmeier, Jane Mealy and Randy Robert. Always devoted to her family, Mary will be remembered for her keen sense of humor, her bridge skill and her love of chocolate and lobster. The family thanks the exceptional staff of The Cedars Nursing Care Center for the years of compassionate care that they provided for Mary. The family also thanks the VNA hospice team for their assistance to Mary and family. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Mount Hope Cemetery, 1048 State St., Bangor. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Cedars Development Office, P.O. Box 466, Portland, ME 04412.
