HALLIE LEONARD – CAMDEN – Hallie Herrick Leonard, 91, died Sept. 20, 2008, at Windward Gardens, Camden. Born Oct. 14, 1916, in Mars Hill, she was the daughter of Frank H. and Verna (Landers) Herrick. She was a 1934 graduate of Camden High School and attended Ballard Business College, Rockport. In 1938, Hallie married William Kanavy, who died in 1945. She later married W. Frank Leonard, in 1949. She was a former member of Chestnut Street Baptist Church, Camden, for many years, where she was active in Chadavae, Ladies Mission Circle, and was a Pioneer Girl leader and Sunday school teacher. In more recent years, she attended Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church, Rockland. She was a former member of Camden Dandylions and had served as secretary for Fair Haven Camps for many years. Her hobbies included reading, playing golf, walking and knitting. Surviving is a son, William Leonard and his wife, Rebecca, of Thomaston; a daughter, Wilma Nagorniuk of Casco; a sister, Marjorie Bickmore of Rockland; grandchildren, Erin Moody, Scott Phelps, Mark and Derek Nagorniuk, Tim, Steven, Joslyn and Jennifer Couch; several nieces and nephews, and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, William Kanavy; her second husband, W. Frank Leonard, who died April 11, 2002; her son-in-law, Peter Nagorniuk; and sisters, Mary Leonard, Verna Pellerin, Muriel Welt and Blanche Winslow. Calling hours will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain St., Camden. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church, 1 Warrenton Ave., Rockland, with the Rev. Dr. Branan Becknell and Mr. Harold Duff officiating.
