LINCOLN – A. Gardiner Brown, 94, husband of the late Emily F. Brown, died Nov. 12, 2003, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born Nov. 20, 1908, in Lincoln, the son of William A. and Margery E. (Weatherbee) Brown. Gardiner graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music and was a veteran of World War II. He and Emily owned and operated Brown’s Shoe Store on Main Street in Lincoln for many years. They later taught music at Lee Academy. He was at one time a member of the Rotary Club and was a member of the Lincoln Historical Society. He played music with various local bands over the years, and played piano and organ almost everywhere he went right up until his last illness. He is survived by his special friend, Shirley Austin of Lincoln; niece, Emily Watkins and her husband, Alvin; nephews, Peter Way and his wife, Arlene, and Phil Way; and Marge Way, wife of late nephew, George Way. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Darrell Joiner officiating. Interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery. Friends are invited to the Waterfront after the services. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Lincoln Historical Society.
