PERHAM – Abel H. Brissette, 91, died peacefully Oct. 28, 2006, at his residence, after a brief illness with his family by his side. He was born Aug. 11, 1915, in North Caribou, the son of Theodore and Lucy (Langley) Brissette. He attended the North Caribou schools as well as St. Joseph University, Moncton, New Brunswick. Abel was a self-employed farmer and woodcutter in Perham for many years. He married Madeline Michaud Nov. 8, 1949. He was an active member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where he was a fourth degree member of the Fred V. Brescia Council 1870 Knights of Columbus, serving in numerous posts including grand knight. Mr. Brissette was an active member of the Perham community, serving as a selectman as well as the Perham School board. Abel was recently honored by the Maine Forest Service for his 43 years of service as Perham’s Fire Warden. Surviving, in addition to his wife of nearly 57 years, Madeline of Perham; are two sons and daughters-in-law, Vernon and Jane Brissette of Whiting and Stephen and Ann Brissette of Manchester, N.H.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Shirley and Carl Goggins of Holden, Patricia Brissette of Dorchester, Mass., and Deborah and Dan Zetterman of Waterville; two sisters, Lydia Brissette and Lorina Dempster both of West Virginia; 11 grandchildren, two great-grand-children, many nieces and nephews. Mr. Brissette was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Ansele; and three sisters, Fernande Karling, Dorothy Brissette and Rita Kossuth. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, from the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Fr. Jean-Paul Labrie, pastor, officiating, in a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mr. Brissette may do so through the Holy Rosary Catholic Church Memorial Fund.
