GUILFORD – Ruth Hope Ames, 97, died Oct. 28, 2006, in Guilford. She was born May 3, 1909, in Guilford, daughter of Harry and Lora (Wyman) Rowe. A lifelong resident of Guilford, she worked for Hardwood Products Co., Guilford, for 30 years. She was predeceased by her husband, George Ames Sr. in 2001. She is survived by five children, George Ames Jr. of Guilford, Ida Page of Abbot, Mattie Merchant of Florida, Cecil Ames of Sangerville and Roseland Stevens of Dover-Foxcroft; 19 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her granddaughter, Tammy Cunningham of Guilford, with whom she made her home for the past five years, and Tammy’s sons, Derek of Guilford and Craig, now serving in the U.S. Marine Corps at Parris Island, S.C. At Ruth’s request, there will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at Lawn Cemetery, Guilford, with Kevin Stevens officiating.
