HOWLAND – We are woven of the same fabric, laced together by love and memories and a thousand dreams known only to our hearts. We are family. We are blessed. On April 19, 2007, the rock of our family, Abby Young entered into heaven having lived a wonderful life. Abby passed away at home in the arms of his beloved wife, Polly. Abby was born Aug. 2, 1931, in Old Town, the son of Benjamin and Nora (Drake) Young. He graduated from Howland High School, Class of 1952 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Allagash. Shortly after this time, Abby married the love of his life, Polly and together they raised five beautiful children. Abby dedicated 50 years of his life to Lincoln Pulp & Paper Co., where he worked as a maintenance supervisor. He truly loved the mill and the people he worked with. Abby was a member of the United Methodist Church of Howland and a lifetime member of the VFW Leveille-Shorey Post and also a member of the American Legion Lee-Graham Post of Howland. Abby enjoyed wood crafting and spent countless hours down cellar creating pieces, which will be treasured by family and friends. In addition to his wife of 50 years, Polly, he is survived by his children, Diane Dunn and Joseph, Judi Thompson and Rick, John Young and Earlene, Abby Young Jr. and Debby, and James Young. Abby was also blessed with eight exceptional grandchildren, Ryan, Joey and Ashlee Dunn, Cody and Molly Thompson, Tony Arthers and Isaac Young and Abner Young III. In addition to his parents, Abby was predeceased by a brother, Benjamin Young of Alton; and his beloved granddaughter, Miss Ashlee. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Howland Methodist Church, where a memorial service will be held 4 p.m. with Pastor Maria Guereca officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Abby’s memory may be made to the Ashlee Dunn Memorial Scholarship or the Howland United Methodist Church. Arrangements with Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln.
