MAPLETON – Adrine D. Lavaway, 84, died April 4, 2005, at a local health care facility. He was born Feb. 23, 1921, in Presque Isle, the son of Dennis and Agnes (Landry) Lavaway. Mr. Lavaway was a World War II veteran. He was a painting contractor for several years and retired after 50 years of employment at the Northern Maine Fairgrounds, serving as superintendent for several years. He is survived by his loving wife, Louise (Ferguson) Lavaway of Mapleton; his six children, Mildred Lavaway and her husband, Ted Ratcliff, of Vernon Hill, Va., Dennis Lavaway and his wife, Donna, of Waynesboro, Va., Gary Lavaway and his wife, Becky, of Presque Isle, Carolyn Griffin of Sherrill’s Ford, N.C., Marilyn Saucier and partner, Melbourne Smith, of Presque Isle and Connie Orcutt and her husband, Alan, of Mapleton; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Lavaway is also survived by three sisters, Marion Campbell of Presque Isle, Carmeline Tardy of Lincoln and Jean Oliver of Enfield, Conn. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Winnifred Rollins, Patricia Langlais and Agnes Ellis; and three brothers, Franklin Lavaway, Dana Lavaway and Thomas Lavaway. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2005, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. Alfred Irving officiating. Relatives and friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service Spring interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
