BANGOR – Agnes Evelyn (Griffin) Searles, 90, died Sept. 27, 2007. Born in Hampden, she was the daughter of Mary (Laffin) Griffin and Stephen F. Griffin. Agnes attended Hampden schools and worked for the New England Telephone Co., for 35 years. She was active in the Pioneers, serving as president in the mid 1970s and retired from the company in 1980. She was active in her children’s activities and enjoyed many hobbies, cooking, gardening, crafts, reading, and her pets, Belle and Sam. Agnes married Paul J. Searles, in 1941 and raised a large family. She is survived by her children, a daughter, with whom she had lived with since 1983, Mary Jane of Bangor, Kathy and husband, Robert Devine, of Falmouth, Cynthia and husband, Bill Clifford, of Lewiston, sons, David and wife, Mary, of Owensboro, Ky., and Dick and wife, Joan, of Kennetts Square, Pa. She is also survived by grandchildren, Rachel, Richard and John, Denny, Becky and husband, Sean, Mary Beth, Paul, Connie and husband, Scott, Adam and Jim, Leslie and her fianc?, Andy, Griffin, Maggie and Grace; great-grandchildren, Ella, Will, William, Elias, Tyler and Sidney. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Paul; sons, Dana and Peter; her siblings, Bernice, Mary, Julia, Stephen and Anne; and a special sister-in-law, Mary Searles Tyler. The family thanks Theresa Lowell, Hospice of Eastern Maine and Bangor Area Nursing for their assistance during Agnes’ end of life transition. Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery.
