SHERMAN – Alan Beecher Sleeper, 72, died Nov. 9, 2005, at Patten. He was born Nov. 30, 1932, in Sherman, son of Royce and Thelma (Sawyer) Sleeper. He graduated from Sherman High School, Class of 1950. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War, employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 40 years, traveling extensively. He was a member of the Mars Pennsylvania Masonic Lodge AF & AM, Anah Shriners of Bangor, Molunkus Valley Chapter No. 95 O.E.S. and Washburn Memorial Church, Sherman. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Frances Oakes Sleeper of Sherman; children, Thomas and his wife, Dennise Sleeper, of Florida, William Sleeper of Virginia, Lora and her husband, Dennis “Tony” Ryan Jr., of Patten; six grandchildren, Nikolas Ryan, Angel, Tori, Jeffrey, JoAnn and Karen Sleeper; two brothers, Leo “Gove” of Sherman, David and his wife, Janet of Mattawamkeag; sister, Lois Foss and her husband, Malcom, of Mattawamkeag; a sister-in-law, Barbara Sleeper of Sherman; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, William and Mary Reese of Veazie; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Alan was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Fred. At Alan’s request, a graveside service will be held in the spring at the Sherman Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local charity of choice. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls.
