PENOBSCOT – Alan M. Bridges, 73, passed away June 29, 2006. Alan was born Aug. 24, 1932, to extremely wonderful, caring parents, Carl and Marie (Mitchell) Bridges of Penobscot. Alan was a Korean War veteran in the Navy Air Corps, serving on the aircraft carrier Mindoro. He graduated from Clark High School in Penobscot and the University of Maine at Orono with a bachelor of arts degree in history and government. He was employed for several years by Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Portland, and was director of the Health Facilities Planning Council in Augusta, and several entrepreneurial ventures. He is survived by the mother of his children, Carol Atwood Bridges of Winslow; seven children, Brian Bridges of Safford, Ariz., Julie Hinds and Sharon Bridges, of Mesa, Ariz., Alan M. Bridges of Sacramento, Calif., Stephanie Bobak and husband, Peter, of Huntington Beach, Calif., Carl “Randy” Bridges and wife, Kathy, of San Ramon, Calif., and Cindy Ross of Los Angeles, Calif.; two great-granddaughters, Jessica Bridges of Sacramento, Calif. and Amanda Sanchez and husband, Aaron; one great-grandson, Eyan Sanchez of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Carolyn Blodgett of Penobscot and Edith Bridges of Newington, Conn.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Special thanks to his second family, especially Lisa Grant at MedNow and Leon, the staff of Sea Breeze, Verona Island, as well as hospice volunteers. At Alan’s request, there will be no funeral service, but graveside prayers will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 1, at the Bay Cemetery, Penobscot. In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to Hancock County Hospice. Arrangements by Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, Bucksport.
