MAPLETON – Alden R. Dicker Sr., 86, died Dec. 14, 2006, at the Mars Hill Nursing Home. He was born June 9, 1920, to Aaron M. and Hazel (Smith) Dicker in Mapleton. He was a resident of Mapleton, at the Mapletree Estates and a former resident of Presque Isle. Alden grew up in Mapleton on the family farm. He married Christine Hughes Dec. 31, 1939. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Throughout his life, he worked at the P.I. Starch Co. and for MSAD No. 1 for several years. He was a member of the Mapleton Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Sandra; a brother, Donald; and sisters, Mae (Dicker) Porter, Margaret (Dicker) Hoffses and June (Dicker) Buzzell. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Christine; a son, Alden Dicker Jr. and his wife, Georgia, of Chapman; a son, Larry Dicker and his wife, Marlene, of Summerfield, Fla.; a son, Roger Dicker and his wife, Anne, of Westfield; a daughter, Rebecca (Dicker) Wieder and her companion, Philip Woodman, of South Berwick; a daughter, Christy Dicker and her companion, Peter St. Peter, of Portage; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Dicker) Trombley, Julie Dicker, Stacey (Dicker) Hendricks, Heather (Dicker) Bushey, Matthew Wieder, Seth Wieder, Rachel Dicker, Deidre Dicker; and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth (Dicker) Belanger of Bullhead City, Ariz., and Patsy (Dicker) Johnson of Beltsville, Md.; one very special cousin, Berniece Brown of Wytopitlock, and several nieces and nephews. He will be remembered as a very kind and gentle man, who loved nature, feeding the birds, observing wildlife, and most of all spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed by all. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Mapleton Baptist Church with the Revs. Phillip Woodman and Ken Phelps officiating. Visiting hours will be held 1 p.m. until time of service. Interment will take place at Southside Cemetery, Mapleton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Mapleton Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
