NEWPORT and PITTSFIELD Alfred E. Cookson, 78, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at a Pittsfield health care facility. He was born Sept. 1, 1928, in Dexter, a son of George and Eva (Clukey) Cookson. Alfred and his family moved to Pittsfield when he was 13. He graduated from Maine Central Institute, Pittsfield, Class of 1948; and retired from the Cianbro Corporation. Alfred was a communicant of St. Agnes Parish. He is survived by a sister, with whom he resided for many years, Georgia Knowlton of Newport; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Alfred was predeceased by brothers and sisters, Beulah, Phillip, Beatrice, Norman, Galen and Wilbur. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. Agnes Church, 50 Detroit Ave., Pittsfield, with the Rev. Fr. Paul Kerns officiating. Interment will be at Pittsfield Village Cemetery.
