CARIBOU – Alfred “Fred” R. Soucy, 86, died Oct. 8, 2006, at a Caribou health care facility after a short illness. He was born Nov. 25, 1919, in Siegas, New Brunswick, the son of George and Blanche (Fortin) Soucy. He served with the Canadian Army during World War II. Fred was an ironworker for more than 30 years, traveling throughout the state of Maine. He was a member of the Local 496 Ironworkers Union and attended the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Fred enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was predeceased by his wife, Albertine L. (Tardiff) Soucy March 5, 2003. He is survived by five sons, Roy Soucy of Bristol, Conn., Gene Soucy of Statesville, N.C., Donald Soucy and his wife, Lee, of Waynesville, Mo., Roger Soucy of Palmdale, Calif., and Bryan Soucy and his wife, Tammy, of Mars Hill; three daughters, Nancy Perry and Paula DeMerchant and her husband, Larry, all of Caribou and Susan Brame of Charleston, S.C.; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Fr. Nguyen Thanh, pastor, officiating in a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will take place at the Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish to contribute in memory of Fred may do so through the Caribou Pet and Rescue. Envelopes may be obtained through the funeral home.
