BREWER and BANGOR – Alice H. (Jordan) Gass, 96, wife of the late Harold Gass, died June 20, 2006, at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born April 29, 1910, in Orono, the second child of James and Della (Spencer) Jordan. Although she held residence in Stillwater, Brewer, and Waterbury, Conn., she lived the majority of her life in Bangor. Alice was a graduate, with honors from John Bapst High School. She was active in the Democratic party, serving as a ward clerk and was a justice of the peace, swearing in new voters. She served as a volunteer for the Extension Service at the University of Maine, serving as home economic advisor for their “Helping People to Help Themselves” program. Her 50-year marriage to Harold Gass was, in her words, the highlight of her life. She is survived by one son, David P. Jordan of Thomaston, Conn.; her sister, Priscilla (Jordan) Sawyer of Marietta, Ga.; her brother, Paul Jordan of Bangor; and two nieces, Deanna H. DeDecker of Holbrook, Ariz. and Crystal H. Sawyer Mitchell of Lithia Springs, Ga. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Clayton Blackstone officiating. Friends may call 2 p.m. Tuesday until the time of service. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer at a later date.
