HOLDEN – Gladys Elsie (Bennett) Robinson, 88, died peacefully June 23, 2006. Gladys was born Aug. 7, 1917, in Brewer, the daughter of the late Melville and Edith (Moore) Bennett. She was a 1936 graduate of Brewer High School and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brewer. Gladys married the late Irving F. Robinson Sr. and moved to Bangor, where they raised their three sons. She was active in the Boy Scouts, as a den mother for many years. Gladys gave unselfishly of herself when tending to her sick mother, husband and sister, Lulu Corey, until their deaths. Gladys had been employed by Viner Brothers and Freeses Department Store. In her later life, Gladys moved to Bradley where she lived with her fiance, the late Chanel Roy, for 18 years. They enjoyed traveling, yard sales and flea markets. Gladys’ past time was filled with knitting, gardening, reading and reminiscing about happy family memories. She was predeceased by two brothers, Rev. Clyde Bennett and Everett McAlpine. She is survived by her three sons, Dean Hayden, Eugene Robinson and his wife, Anne, of Holden and Irving Robinson Jr. and his fiance, Linda Hewes, of Brewer; six grandchildren, Vicki Jo (Robinson) Adams, Tammi (Robinson) Webb, Stacey (Robinson) Stansel, Andrew Robinson, Robin (Robinson) Cole and Michelle (Robinson) Bates; eight great-grandchildren, Jared Stymiest, Willie Adams, Reilly, Chole and Rhys Webb, Shelby Stansel, Tyler and Ashley Cole; three great-stepgrandchildren, Brock, Victoria and Anthony Ashton; several special nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Hospice of Eastern Maine for their loving care and support. Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Sunday, June 25, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, June 26, with the Rev. Dr. George Curtis III, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Brewer, officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor.
