WAITE – Donald Robert Phelps, 18, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 21, 2006. Donald was born March 30, 1988, in Calais, son of John and Cindy (Dyer) Phelps. He was a student at Woodland High School in Baileyville and attended VocTech through high school. Donald was an avid Red Sox fan with his favorite player being, Nomar Garciaparra. He was an awesome baseball player and pitcher and played co-ed and men’s league softball every summer. He always got together a game of “home-run derby” with his family and friends. Donald also played soccer at Woodland High School for one year and enjoyed playing street hockey with his sisters and brother. He loved to hunt, fish, enjoyed building, liked to cook and experimenting with his own recipes, and was always listening to hard rock on his headphones. Donald wanted to be a major league baseball player and a border patrolman. He loved his family and said his parents were his heroes. Donald was loved by everyone who knew him. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Donald C. Phelps; his paternal great-grandfather, Donald Phelps; and his maternal great-grandfather, Del Longfellow. Surviving are his parents, John and Cindy Phelps of Waite; two sisters, Wendy Cilley and husband, Todd and Kerri Phelps and Brian, all of Topsfield; a brother, Johnny Phelps of Waite; maternal grandparents, Bobby and Norma Dyer of Lambert Lake; maternal great-grandmother, Cynthia Longfellow of Lambert Lake; paternal grandmother, Margaret Phelps of Waite; paternal great-grandmother, Virginia Phelps of Princeton; a very special friend, Jessica Whittaker; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and “tons” of friends. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at the Woodland High School gymnasium in Baileyville with Pastor Keith Moody officiating.
