PRESQUE ISLE- Alice K. Towle, 96, died Aug. 19, 2004, at a Presque Isle health-care facility. She was born Feb. 9, 1908, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Herbert and Annie (Greenlaw) Kitchen. She was a graduate of Presque Isle High School and Bryant & Stratton of Boston, Mass. She taught commercial subjects at Presque Isle High School and later had worked at Wilkens Dress Shop. She was a life member of Fern Chapter No. 139 Order of the Eastern Star, Spragueville Home Makers Extension, Maysville Grange and the Presque Isle Bridge Club. Mrs. Towle enjoyed reading and her grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Iris (Dudley) Towle; four grandchildren, Andrew W. Towle, both of Presque Isle, Deborah Towle, Pamela Spaulding and her husband, Brent, all of Brewer, Elizabeth Hayward and her husband, Joshua, of Bangor; three great-grandchildren, Sarah and Jacob Spaulding of Brewer and Alexandrea Hayward of Bangor; three stepgrandchildren, nine great-stepgrandchildren; two nieces, Alice (Hawkins) Cooley of Orlando, Fla., Elsa Hawkins of Worcester, Mass.; two cousins, Mary Gaetz of Auburn, Calif., and Dorothy Hawks of Bangor. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles A. Towle in 1989; her son, Herbert Towle in 1992. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Relatives and friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of service. Interment will be in Johnson Cemetery, Presque Isle.
