HAMPDEN and NEWBURGH Alice L. (Hopper) Lane, passed away peacefully, Aug. 25, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. She was born in Newburgh, June 11, 1927, the daughter of Percy and Mabel (Turner) Hopper. Alice was a graduate of Hampden Academy, Class of 1946. She was a piano player and together with her late husband, Philip, they played for more than 30 years at grange halls, and town halls. Her life was all about making people happy with her music. Alice was a member of the Ellingwoods Corner United Methodist Church and was the pianist at the church for many years. Her last public performance was on July 27, 2004. Alice loved music, but the focus of her life was always on her children and family. She leaves a legacy as being a wonderful, wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip, in 1989 and a son, Barry Joseph Lane in 2003. She is survived by a son, Kenneth D. Lane and his wife, Alice Jean, of Newburgh; three daughters, Carol Ann Mazerolle of East Hartford, Conn., Doreen M. Rogers, and her husband, Robert, of Hampden, and Laura Ellen Lane of Hollis, N.H.; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Lane of Kenduskeag; a sister, Waneta Goodell and her husband, Richard, of Seaford, Del.; a brother, Paul Hopper and his wife, Cintra, of Hampden; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, Eva Scripture and Maryann Richard. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral service will be held, 10 a.m. Saturday, with Pastor Chuck Langbein, pastor of the Ellingwoods Corner Unithed Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Chapman Cemetery, Newburgh. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in honor of Alice to the Ellingwoods Corner United Methodist Church, (Building Fund) care of Treasurer, Terrence I.
