MACHIAS and HARRINGTON Obed E. Beal Sr., 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior Aug. 15, 2004, at Sun-rise Care Facility in Jonesport. He was born Nov. 17, 1914, in Harrington the son of Amaziah and Marjorie (Look) Beal. He graduated from Harrington High School in 1934. He celebrated his 70th alumni June 5, 2004. He enjoyed sports such as, baseball, and was a huge Red Sox fan, and a super hunter. He served in World War II from Feb. 8, 1941, until Sept. 11, 1945. Ranked Tec 4 in the Army. He was in New Guinea and Pacific theater and won many medals for efforts and heroism’s. His pre-service occupation was oiler for Bethlehem Trans. Co. on Great Lakes. His main work was clam digging. He is survived by his wife, Sonya Peterson Beal Hall, friend and caretaker for around 12 years; one son, Obed E. Beal Jr., and his wife, Sharon; two grandchildren, Josh, Misty and her fianc?, Jason Smith; one great-grandchild, Wendy Rose; one sister, Edna Marston; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Lewis (Johnny), and Albert Beal; and one sister Thelma Robinson. He will be remembered by special friends Regina (Hall) Long of Durham, England, Mike Johnston, and Kay Welch, both of Machias. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at Downeast Christian Church, Marshville Road, Harrington. Following, Full military honors at Gilbert Pinkham Cemetery, in Fryeville. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Fellowship following services at Edna Marston’s in Fryeville.
