LEWISTON – Alice Lillian Smart Vaughn, 91, died Sept. 24, 2005, at Marshwood Health Care Center, following a long illness. She was born July 4, 1914, in Dedham, the daughter of Arthur and Blanche Smart. She was married to the late Elmore M. Vaughn Sr. for 67 years and lived in the Dixfield area much of that time. She was a member of the Dixfield Congregation Church, the Dixfield Senior Citizens and the Order of Eastern Stars. She liked to read, knit, travel, and garden; she especially liked her white, pink and purple petunias. She was a wonderful cook and loved to cook for her family. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Malcolm M. Vaughn Jr. “Mac” and Dorothy of Peru; three grandchildren, Debra Mcleod and her husband, Danny, of Winthrop, Dwayne and Mark Vaughn, and their wives, Jeanine and Barbara, of Peru; five great-grandchildren, Brian McLeod, of Winthrop, Danielle Read and her husband, Adam, of Augusta, Tanya Vaughn, of Rumford, and Derrick and Devon Vaughn of Peru, three great-great-grandchildren, Hannah and A.J. Read, and Logan Von Cote. She was predeceased by a sister, Marguerite Smart Newton. A Graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at Demeritt Cemetery in Peru.
