MCLEAN, Va. – Allen Rogers Barrow Jr., 78, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Arleigh Burke Pavillion, McLean, Va. He was born Aug. 20, 1925, in Boston, Mass. He was a graduate of Dartmouth College; received his masters from Boston University and his Doctor of Education from George Washington University. Dr. Barrow was a retired captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. He joined the corps at age 17 and served in the Far East. After his retirement from the Marine Corps, he taught history at the newly opened McLean High School. He was employed by Fairfax County Public Schools for 28 years as a teacher and administrator. He is survived by three sons, Allen Rogers Barrow III of Raleigh, N.C., Andrew Copenhaver Barrow of Roanoke, Va.; two grandchildren, Leslie Warren Barrow of Raleigh, N.C. and Allisand Elizabeth Axline-Barrow of Manassas, Va.; one sister, Elizabeth Barrow Byers of Gouldsboro. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, in the Memorial Garden at Arleigh Burke Pavilion, 1739 Kirby Road, McLean, Va. Interment will be in Newton, Mass., at a later date.
