DAVIDSON, Tenn. and WEST OLD TOWN – Allen W. Whitcomb, 58, died unexpectedly Oct. 24, 2006, in Davidson, Tenn. He was born Nov. 11, 1947, in Bangor, the son of Wilbur and Edith (Wickett) Whitcomb Buchanan. Allen was a graduate of Old Town High School. His love for singing led him to Nashville, Tenn., where he made his first recording at the age of 18 with Chart Records. After high school he served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was a LRP, paratrooper and helicopter door gunner. After his discharge, he resided in Nashville, Tenn., where he was a part of the country music industry until his death. He held a pilot’s license and piloted the Chart Records’ airplane for a time. He was a booking agent for several country music singers such as Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Randy Travis, etc. He was employed with a number of agencies, Randy Rice Agency, Micky Gilley’s Talent Agency and Barbara Mandrell’s Agency. He then progressed to his goal, which was to become a manager, and managed the following singers, Gene Watson, Kevin Sharp, Ken Mellons and Sammy Sadler. He is survived by his daughter, Wendi McMullin of Pegram, Tenn.; brothers, the Rev. Edward Costain and his wife, Marilyn and William Costain Sr. and his wife, Joyce, all of West Old Town; sister-in-law, Janet Costain of Bangor; uncle and aunt, Linwood and Alice Wickett of West Old Town; several cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be remembered by a special friend, Buddy Suttle. He was predeceased by his father, Wilbur Whitcomb; his mother and stepfather, Edith and Malcolm “Tom” Buchanan; and his brother, Harlie Costain. Funeral services were held Oct. 28, at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. Burial was at the Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens, Harpeth Hills, Tenn.
