WINTER HARBOR – Allison Walker Workman, 86, died Friday, March 4, 2005, at a Bar Harbor hospital after a long illness. He was born Nov. 1, 1918, in Prospect Harbor, the son of John E. and Daisy E. (Myrick) Workman. Allison was a graduate of Winter Harbor High School, Class of 1939. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of staff sergeant before his discharge in 1946. Allison was recipient of the Army of Occupation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He also qualified as an Expert Rifleman. After the war, Allison returned to Winter Harbor, where he resumed his work as a lobster fisherman, which he had been doing since he was a teenager when his parents tended the Prospect Harbor Light. Allison fished continuously until his retirement at the age of 83 in 2001. He was also active in town activities, serving on the Winter Harbor School Committee and also as a selectman for the town. Allison was a member of Winter Harbor Lodge No. 192, AF & AM. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marie T. Workman of Winter Harbor; three children, Ann Smith and her husband, Larry Sr., of Winter Harbor, Janice Myrick and her husband, David, of West Bay, and Norman Workman and his wife, Jane, of Winter Harbor; a brother, Gordon Workman and his wife, Carmel; a sister in law, Irene Smith and her husband, Roland; 10 grandchildren, Lori Andress (John), Larry E. Smith Jr. (Karen), Lisa Alison Tracey (Jason), JR Bridges (Liz), Tammy Mann (Tom), Michael Allison Bridges-Myrick (Laura), Bobby Myrick (Heather), Deana Archer (Michael), Wendy Woods (Fred), and Chuck Workman (Angel); 23 great-grandchildren, Kristy Tracey (Troy), Lori and Joshua Timmons, Andy, Mark, and Lee Smith, Ashley and Brandon Tracey, Matt and Ben Holmes, Nicholas and Heather Holt, Abbi and Emily Myrick, Sarah, Isabell, and Zachary Myrick, Eric and Sean Archer, Katelyn Eaton, Alison and Amber Woods, and Cameron Walker Workman; two great-great-grandchildren, Adam and Caroline Tracey; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, fellow fishermen, and friends. Allison was predeceased by an infant great-great-grandson, Seth Evan Tracey. Graveside services will be held at a date to be announced in the spring at Prospect Harbor Cemetery. Arrangements are by Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Milbridge.
