ELLSWORTH – Alma Bertrice King, born April 10, 1913, in Monroe, daughter of William and Ada (Thompson) Plummer. Alma passed away April 7, 2004, three days before her ninety-first birthday after a long battle with cancer. Alma attended school in Monroe. Alma married Frank Young, and moved to Belfast where they lived for several years. Frank and Alma had one child, their daughter, Virginia. In 1941, Frank Young died and Alma later married George Condon. She spent several years cooking for the Condon Mill crews in the Maine woods before moving to Ellsworth where she spent many years boarding foster children. She really loved the children and had many happy memories of caring for them. Later, Alma married Gideon King and moved to Newfoundland. She lived there until he died and then Alma moved back to Ellsworth. Alma was an active volunteer for the Courtland Rehabilitation and Living Center Auxiliary and she belonged to the Ellsworth Falls Congregational Church. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening, bird watching and spending time with her cats. Alma brought joy to everyone she knew with her beautiful poetry. She was predeceased by a grandson, John Jay Lindsey; a brother, Hilton Plummer; sisters, Doris Plummer, Georgia Purinton and Phoebe Cronkite. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia and her husband, John Lindsey; a very special son, Russell Studer; a sister, Erna Gilmore; two granddaughters, Astor (Lindsey) Gillis and her husband, Bob, Andra (Lindsey) Farrell and her husband, Laurence Farrell Jr., (recently deceased); a grandson, Terry Lindsey; six great-grandchildren, Drew Church and Christine Brown and their children, Lucas and Logan; Darrin Church and his children, Darrian and William; Lorna (Church) Chick and her husband, Bruce, and their children, Johnathan and Ethan; Janelle (Goodwin) Jones and her husband, Carter, and their children, David, Brian, Andrew and Cody; Melissa (Farrell) Wilmot and her husband, Chad, Shauna (Lindsey) Hisler and her husband, Raymond, and their son, Edward; Lorrie Ann (Farrell) Murphy and husband, Eddie, and their children, Stephen Brenton and wife, Louann, and children, Michelle (Brenton) Novak and husband, Al, and their daughter, Barbara Studer and children; Lynnann (Studer) Reed and her husband, Chris, and children, Cathie (Studer) Fox and her husband, John, and children, Teri (Studer) Simmons and her husband, John, and daughter; many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Special thanks to Hospice and her other caregivers who brought her many hours of joy and comfort. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2004, where funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, April 10 at the Jordan Fernald Funeral Chapel, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth with the Rev. Emilie Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Woodbine Cemetery.
