VAN BUREN – Alphonsine D. Curtis, 87, died May 11, 2004, at a Van Buren health care facility. She was born in Van Buren, Aug. 25, 1916, the daughter of Wilfred and Alphonsine (Pelletier) Poitras. She was a graduate of Fort Kent Normal School and was employed as a school teacher for a number of years in the Van Buren area. For many years prior to retirement she and her husband worked as estate property caretakers on Fishers Island, N.Y. She was a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary on Fishers Island. Alphonsine is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Grimm and her husband, Jerry of Lakeport, Fla.; one grandson, John Curtis McBride of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two great grandchildren, Sheryl Lynn Noel, and her husband, Jason, and Brian Curtis McBride; one great-great grandson, Andrew Noel. She was predeceased by her first husband, Guilford Dumais in 1946; her second husband, Vinal Curtis in 1991; one son, Donald Dumais in 1995; two grandsons, Steven McBride in 1988, and Scott McBride in 1995. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at the St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Interment will be in the Estes Park Cemetery, Easton.
