CARIBOU – Alphy J. Cyr, 78, husband of Viola G. Cyr, died at home Sept. 17, 2004, after a brief illness. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He was born May 29, 1926 in Hamlin, the son of Carise and Rose (Pelletier) Cyr. He attended the Caribou School System after the family moved to Caribou during the 1930s. Alphy served in the U.S. Army as a T-5 during World War II (1944-46). He was part of the 397th Regiment, 100th Infantry in the European Theater, and earned the Infantry Combat Badge as well as other citations. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Post No. 9389. Upon returning home after the war, he worked at Bath Iron Works as a welder before attending the State School of Barbering, graduating in 1950. He owned and operated his own salon in Caribou for more than 50 years. He took great joy in his work and enjoyed the people he served which prompted him, even in retirement, to continue working until his illness. Alphy married Viola G. Dube on June 28, 1949. He is survived by his wife of 55 years; two sons, Dale Cyr, Pharm.D., and his wife, Marie, of Leominster, Mass., and Gary Cyr of Caribou; two grandchildren, Leanne and Eric Cyr of Leominster, Mass.; three brothers, Ralph Cyr of Southbury, Conn., Armand Cyr of South Windsor, Conn. and Ronald Cyr of South Windsor, Conn.; four sisters, Esther Angeloni of Elk Grove, Calif., Blanche Beaupre of Caribou, Jeannine Bission of Ansonia, Conn., and Rosalind Belanger of Southington, Conn., as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Ozime Levesque and Albert Cyr and two sisters, Helen Riley and Anna Berger. At Alphy’s request there will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Caribou with Fr. David Raymond officiating. Following the service, there will be a time of fellowship and refreshments at the Holy Rosary Parish Center. The committal and military burial will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27, at the Maine Veteran’s Cemetery in Caribou. Arrangements are by the Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou.
