PRESQUE ISLE AND BANGOR – Alton W. Simpson, 81, went to be with the Lord, March 25, 2008, after a long illness. He was born May 7, 1926, in Ashland, the son of Alton and Mildred (Rafford) Simpson. He worked 39 and one half years for B & A Railroad. Alton was an active member of Bangor Baptist Church since 1988, and loved to travel and meet new people. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Dawn (Dow) Hafford Simpson of Bangor; one son, Brian Simpson and his wife, Sandy, of Presque Isle; grandchildren, Leane and Scott Sprague of Brewer, Jeffrey and Nicole Simpson of Holland, Mich., Justin and Shelly Simpson of Presque Isle; several great-grandchildren; three step-children, Robert Hafford and his wife, Kathy, of Overland Park, Kan., Scott Hafford of Kansas City, Kan., Lori and her husband, Gary Dyer, of East Hampton, Mass.; stepgrand-children, Kristine Hafford, Nicolas Hafford, Garrett Dyer, Erica Dyer and Emily Dyer. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 27, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 28, with the Rev. Richard Snell officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments immediately after the service at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
