MACHIAS – Eugene “Genie” Anthony, 81, passed away March 23, 2008, at Narraguagus Bay Health Care Facility, after an extended convalescence. He was born Dec. 24, 1926, in Machias, the son of the late Alfred and Lura (Foss) Anthony. After inheriting his family’s farm, Genie worked taking care of the farm and also spent time as a caretaker for summer homes in the area. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time outdoors. The last 10 years of Genie’s life were spent at Narraguagus Bay Health Care Facility, Milbridge, where Genie developed many close friendships. His friends there became like an extended family to him. He is survived by a sister, Marguarite (Anthony) Wood of Machias; special niece, Judy (Johnson) Clark and husband, David, of Connecticut; many other nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces, who loved him and will remember him fondly. Genie will also be missed by many special friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, Shirley and Amos Anthony; sisters, Julia Johnson and Charlotte Reynolds; and several nephews.
