HARTLAND – Alver Albert Cully, 81, passed away Dec. 17, 2003, at his residence. He was born April 15, 1922, in Bradley, the son of Albert A. and Viola Cully. Alver moved to Hartland in 1933. He served his country in the Army in World War II. Alver was also in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He worked at Irving Tannery until 1973. He was a member of the Hartland Volunteer Fire Department for 62 years, Fire Chief for 15 years, Town Warden for 15 years, and was a life member of the Masons. In 2001, he was given the Citizen’s Award. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Cully, whom he married in 1945 in England; son, Micheal Lee Cully and wife, Marlene; daughters, Jennifer Lee Metzger and husband, Don, Wendy Alva Harding and husband, Stephen; grandchildren, Loren, Mark, Chris, Russell, Scott, Troy, and Romie Cully, Jason Metzger, and Daniel Harding; step-grandchildren, Nathan, Kristie, and Kim Henderson; sisters, Eva Baird and Elizabeth Cary; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friends, Buddy and Bonnie Smart and Andy and Beverly Blais. Alver was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Earl Cully and sister, Kathleen Tucker. Visitation will take place from 7-9 p.m. Friday Dec. 19, 2003. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at Donald Shorey Funeral Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Ronald Parker. Burial will take place at a later date at Pine Grove Cemetery in Hartland. Memorial contributions may be made in Alver’s memory to the Hartland Volunteer Fire Dept., care of Donald Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, Maine 04967.
