BAR HARBOR – Amelia “Amy” Bradshaw, 97, died peacefully in her home at Birch Bay Village in Bar Harbor, on May 12, 2005. For much of her life, she was also known as Mickey. She was born Aug. 12, 1907, on a steamship off Cape Hatteras, N.C., during a family move from Charleston, S.C. to New York City. Her parents were Amelia Stokein Montgomery and Wilberborce McKinley Montgomery. Amy remained in the New York City area until 1943, when she married Matthew “Bill” Bradshaw and moved to Hartford, Conn. She graduated from high school and Drake’s Business School in Brooklyn, where she also taught. She had a long and varied career as an administrative assistant in New York, Hartford, and then Newington, Conn., where she and her husband and daughter, Judith, moved in 1955. Her husband Bill died in 1976, and Amy moved to Farmington in 1978 to be closer to her only daughter, Judith, and her family. In 2003, she moved to Birch Bay Retirement Village, again to be near Judith, who had moved to Bar Harbor. Amy was an active communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Farmington, where she belonged to the Altar Guild. She loved to read and enjoyed large print books till shortly before she died. She took great joy in her lifetime pursuits of knitting and crocheting. Her creations were prized by her family and friends, and many people made a beeline to her table at St. Joseph’s Christmas fairs, where they stocked up on colorful afghans, sweaters, mittens, and hats each year. She spent many years participating in the Farmington Senior Citizens Band with great pleasure. She looked forward to completing the daily crossword puzzle and was still completing the Jumble puzzle until shortly before she died. Her warm sense of humor, which she maintained until she died, and her loving manner endeared her to all who knew her. Amy leaves her daughter, Judith Bradshaw Brown, and her husband, Harold “Skip” Brack; one grandson, Joshua Matthew Brown, his wife, Susan, step-grandchildren, Shannon and Dylan, and two step granddaughters, Kristen and Ingrid Brack. She will be missed by her dear friend of many years, Elsie Hiross, and her second “family,” including Carol Bennett, Tina Rand, and Tina’s children. There will be two memorial services to celebrate Amy’s life. The first will be conducted in the Assisted Living Wing of the Inn at Birch Bay Village in Hulls Cove/Bar Harbor, 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2005. The second will be a memorial mass during the summer at St. Joseph’s Church in Farmington, with a reception following and the date and time to be announced. Donations may be made in Amy’s name to the St. Joseph’s Church Building Fund, 133 Middle St., Farmington, ME, 04938. Arrangements are under the care of Cremation Services of Maine, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, ME, 04915.
