LINCOLN and EAST MILLINOCKET – Amy L. Ireland, 90, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2008, at a Millinocket hospital. She was born April 16, 1918, in Enfield, the daughter of Alden and Bernadette Thibeau. Amy grew up in Enfield and attended school there. She married Lester Ireland in 1936, and together they raised two daughters and three sons. Lester passed away in 1964, after which time Amy went to work at Rexall Drug Store, Lincoln. After working there for a few years, she went to school and earned a degree in nursing. She was a licensed practical nurse for a short time in Presque Isle, after completing her schooling there. Amy then went to Bangor to work and through her work there, became a private nurse for a family in Northport. She worked for that family for several years, both in Northport and in Florida. Amy then retired to Maine and lived in Lincoln. She was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Lincoln. Amy was a great cook, but she really enjoyed knitting. She and Lester would knit together, often times one would knit a sock and the other would knit the match to it. Each of them taught their daughters to knit and to be nimble minded. Amy is survived by a daughter, Sandra Raymond and her husband, Lester, of Medway; a son, Calvin Ireland Sr. of Lincoln; grandchildren, Lester Raymond Jr., Joseph Raymond, Kelly Mason, Kevin Gifford, Danny Ireland, David Ireland, Debbie Knights, Gary Ireland, Nancy Boren, Carol Rackliff, Pat Larose, Wayne Ireland, Calvin Ireland Jr. Roger Ireland, Sherri Ireland and Paula Durant; four great-grandchildren, Jennifer McGlaughlin, Amy Mason, Joshua Raymond and Jeffrey Mason; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She will also be missed by her housemates at Sweet Seniors Guest House, East Millinocket. In addition to her parents and husband, Amy was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Jandreau; two sons, Cassius Ireland and Lester C. Ireland; and a grandson-in-law, Stanley Mason. She was the last surviving member of her family, additionally being predeceased by her two brothers, Leo and Sidney Thibeau; seven sisters, Delphine Towle, Ada Ryder, Kathleen Baker, Louise Griffin, Audrey Pinette, Averill Faulkner and Elsie Bartlett; a half brother, Alden Thibeau Jr.; and half sisters, Blanche, Helen, Bonnie and Margaret. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, June 12, at Lincoln Cemetery, Park Street, Lincoln, with the Rev. Carolyn Metzler officiating.
