FORT FAIRFIELD – Richard S. Hoyt IV, 52, husband of Michon Fay Hoyt, died unexpectedly Thursday evening, May 29, 2008, at his home. He was born Nov. 28, 1955, in Fort Fairfield, son of Richard S. and Noreen “Bit” (Michaud) Hoyt. Richard attended Fort Fairfield and Presque Isle schools, and had been employed by Houghton Farms of Fort Fairfield for many years, and later for Ferris Oil Co., Presque Isle. Richard was a gifted storyteller and a kind and gentle man, who took great pride and joy in his family and many friends. He enjoyed the outdoors and the simple things in life. Richard was a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, No. 1954, Presque Isle and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Fort Fairfield. Richard will long be remembered for his courage, his intelligence, his joyful and mischievous sense of humor and his innate ability to see the good in everyone. He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Michon Fay Hoyt of Fort Fairfield; two sons, Brett Hoyt and his wife, Maria, of Centreville, Va., and Michael Stevenson of Sullivan; three daughters, Alexia Hoyt of Presque Isle, Tomi and Rici Hoyt of Fort Fairfield; two sisters, Elaine Hopkins and her husband, Donald, of Lakeland, Fla., and Selena Belser and her husband, James, of Pulaski, N.Y.; one brother, David Hoyt of Oveida, Fla.; two grandsons, Ian Franz and Eli Murchison of Presque Isle; one granddaughter, Mayson Deighton of Endicott, Md.; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many long-time friends. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday, June 2, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a memorial service will be conducted 7:30 p.m. by the officers and members of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, No. 1954, Presque Isle. A celebration of Richard’s life will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 166 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Smith officiating. A time of continued fellowship will be held at Elks Lodge No. 508, Main Street, Presque Isle, immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Hoyt to Fort Fairfield Public Library, 339 Main St., Fort Fairfield, ME 04742 or Central Aroostook Humane Society, 26 Cross St., Presque Isle, ME 04769.
